چکیده

Abstract Bengal Fan Miocene sediments were collected during International Ocean Discovery Program Expedition 354 and investigated using petrographic detrital garnet chemistry analyses. The Siwalik Group, which is composed of deposited in the Himalayan foreland basin, was also analyzed for comparison with data provenance change Miocene. Our analyses revealed that Group consist predominantly Higher Crystalline (HHC)‐derived detritus such as chloritoid, staurolite, sillimanite, and/or kyanite, appear among accessory minerals. varies across stratigraphy; most rich almandine poor spessartine pyrope. However, pyrope‐rich garnet, considered to originate from HHC core (granulite facies), found lower upper deposits. deposition HHC‐derived began before Middle (15 Ma) Late (10–9 Group. data, by contrast, indicated appeared Early (17.3 (8.5–6.5 Ma). We conclude record erosion zone since appears sediments. Furthermore, we inputs decreased late (12 early (10 both Nepal Himalaya basin Fan. disappearance probably result dilution Lesser detritus, suggests zone, metamorphosed unmetamorphosed sedimentary rocks, uplifted.

Elevation-induced climate change as a dominant factor causing the late Miocene C(4) plant expansion in the Himalayan foreland.

During the late Miocene, a dramatic global expansion of C4 plant distribution occurred with broad spatial and temporal variations. Although the event is well documented, whether subsequent expansions were caused by a decreased atmospheric CO2 concentration or climate change is a contentious issue. In this study, we used an improved inverse vegetation modeling approach that accounts for the phys...

Metamorphism and exhumation of the NW Himalaya constrained by U–Th–Pb analyses of detrital monazite grains from early foreland basin sediments

Single detrital monazite grains from the Dharamsala and Lower Siwalik Formations (early to mid-Miocene continental foreland basin sediments in NW India) have been dated by two techniques; isotope dilution thermal ionization multicollector mass spectrometry (ID-TIMS) and laser ablation plasma ionization multicollector mass spectrometry (LA-PIMMS). The results give U–Th–Pb isotopic ages of c. 400...

Green Chemistry Metrics with Special Reference to Green Analytical Chemistry.

The concept of green chemistry is widely recognized in chemical laboratories. To properly measure an environmental impact of chemical processes, dedicated assessment tools are required. This paper summarizes the current state of knowledge in the field of development of green chemistry and green analytical chemistry metrics. The diverse methods used for evaluation of the greenness of organic syn...

Polystyrene tubes in clinical chemistry with special reference to iron.

Some manufacturers claim that polystyrene test tubes which are intended to be used once only, have the additional advantage of being chemically clean. Marks (1967), in a memorandum to the British Standards Institute made on behalf of the Association of Clinical Biochemists, proposed that sodium (or potassium) might be used as an indicator of contamination: ion-free water left to stand in the co...
